City Sightseeing Oxford is celebrating the role of unsung heroes in the community by launching a £1 ticket for carers on its award-winning bus tours of the city.
The tour bus operator has confirmed carers will be able to enjoy an open-top tour of Oxford for just £1 as part of a drive to make its tours accessible to everyone while acknowledging the vital role of carers.
The special offer follows the launch of City Sightseeing Oxford’s reduced fee family pass for two adults and up to three children, which will run until October.
Both offers include complimentary access to one of City Sightseeing Oxford’s fully-accessible Stepping Through Oxford walking tours, which deep-dives into the history of the city’s main attractions.
Other sights on the route – which typically lasts one hour and passes 20 stops – include the Bodleian Library, Ashmolean Museum, Oxford Castle, Christ Church Cathedral and historic university colleges.
With latest NHS data suggesting there are 5.4 million carers in the UK, it is hoped the £1 offer will encourage more carers to experience Oxford’s sights and sounds.
Luke Marion, Managing Director of City Sightseeing Oxford, said: “Being a carer is the ultimate responsibility.
“Many have no choice but to dedicate their lives to those who are entirely reliant on individuals to function day-to-day.
“In recognition of this work, we’re proud to launch our £1 Carer Ticket, which reflects our belief that everyone should be able to experience Oxford which we’re proud to serve.
“We hope this special offer incentivises carers to explore the hidden gems on our own doorstep this summer while alleviating some of the costs associated with a day out.”
To qualify for a £1 Carer Ticket, passengers must be accompanying a fare-paying passenger and able to present one of the listed documents or ID when boarding or making a booking.
Accepted documents include Disability Living Allowance, or Child DLA, Personal Independence Payment, Carer’s Allowance or Attendance Allowance, Employment and Support Allowance, a valid Blue Badge or Credibility Access Card, Certificate of Visual Impairment, proof of entitlement to Child Disability Payment or an Access Card, Young Scot card or disabled bus pass.
Each City Sightseeing Oxford tour provides audio commentary in 14 languages, plus a version for children which includes interactive quizzes.
£1 Carer Tickets can be purchased from City Sightseeing Oxford’s Visitor Information Point on High Street, from its friendly on-street ticket sellers and bus drivers or by calling 01865 790522.
