Join the fun at OxTrail 2024

This summer, a vibrant herd of oxen will be grazing in Oxford, ready for your visit. Join us for a public art trail unlike anything Oxford has ever seen. This year, a herd of over 30 life-sized oxen will visit Oxford, and there will be another 107 small oxen throughout the county. Each oxen has been carefully made by artists and local schools. The event will take place from 6th July to 29th August in Oxford.

It costs nothing to join the trail, and finding our ox will allow you to unlock a reward.

Meet our artist

This year, our ox was painted by artist Julien Masson, a self-described “frustrated scientist” who chose computer-generated fluid simulations used in science and engineering to inspire his design.

Julien shares, ” To me, it made sense to propose a design that reflected all the amazing scientific research being undertaken in a centre for scientific excellence such as Oxford.”

What are sculpture trails?

Wild in Art has been creating public art spaces across the world since 2008, animating cities, encouraging local tourism, giving artists of all ages a voice, and raising money for good causes.

This year OxTrail will be raising funds for Sobell House Hospice with the event culminating in an auction at the end of the trail where each large sculpture will be sold off to raise additional funds. This year Sobell House is hoping to raise at least £250,000, around 10% of the money we need to raise each year to help fund their care.

How can I get involved?

On the week of the event, participants can follow the trail by downloading the official app or by purchasing a physical map from the City Sightseeing Oxford Visitor Information Point (44 – 45, High Street, Oxford, OX1 4AP). Proceeds from the map sales will go directly to Sobell House. From here, you can find the sculptures, unlock rewards, upload pictures and track your steps.

The fun just starts here though. We’ll be unveiling our design once the trail has launched on 6th July, and we would love you to tag us on Instagram @oxfordbusco when you find our ox.
